RODNEY LEE CONOVER

... an interview with...

BIO:  Rodney Lee is a dynamic actor, comedian, writer and producer who possess an impressive list of credits, which span feature film, television and stage. Rodney wrote, produced and starred in the feature film, BachelorMan, based on the characters from his wildly popular one-man show of the same name.  BachelorMan is a worldwide tour de force, winning 20 festival awards (and counting), after having screened to sold-out crowds at the prestigious Melbourne (AUS), Palm Beach (Florida) and Providence (Rhode Island) International Film Festivals. In addition, the film won multiple awards at LA’s Dances With Films, Chicago’s IndieFest and most recently, two awards at the HDFEST in Los Angeles. He's currently hosting a talk show on Sirius Satellite Radio...

Comedy On Tap: Just what do you tell people when they ask what you do?

Rodney Lee Conover: I'm in the entertainment business. I host a satellite radio show, write screenplays, produce low budget independent films, do stand-up comedy
and teach sex-ed classes.

COT: How's that going?

RLC: Show-and-Tell day is a riot.

COT: Why go back to radio after 12 years?

RLC: Satellite radio is uncensored. I'd never do regular radio unless the paycheck was to big to resist. I thought I'd hate it, but I love doing the show. Really.

COT: What do you do in your spare time?

RLC: I run and box - depending on how big the other guy is.

COT: You premiered your last film in Chicago. What are the odds that someone from the Midwest gets a movie made about their own life story?

"... I had way too much experience playing the lead on stage for 3 years. When it came to making the movie, of course the idiots in Hollywood demanded that the lead be good-looking. Yeah, like that ever works......"

RLC: If I can do it, c'mon - who couldn't? Seriously, it was a 15-year obsession that is a better story than the actual movie.

COT: How old are you, have you been married,  and what makes you an expert on relationships?

RLC: I'm 36, never been married and what I know about women you could put in a thimble.

COT: What was the best thing about your one-man show being made into a film? Be serious if at all possible.

RLC: Serious? Okay. Perhaps the biggest thrill came when I won for "Best Screenplay" at the San Diego Film Festival. The script beat out several thousand submitted for competition. Festival guru Chris Gore rates the event as being one of the top ten festivals in the world.

COT: What were some of the demands you made for the production of the film?

RLC: I said it had to be in color. That was a deal breaker.

COT: Why do you play the sidekick "Gordy Poster" and not the lead?

RLC: Because apparently I had way too much experience playing the lead on stage for 3 years. When it came to making the movie, of course the idiots in Hollywood demanded that the lead be good-looking. Yeah, like that ever works...

COT: You befreinded and collaborated with the screenwriters of "Once Bitten," Jim Carey's first film. What did you learn from that?

RLC: I learned to never befriend screenwriters again.

COT: So you are the original " BachelorMan?"

RLC: That's what they tell me.

COT: Are you ever going to marry and settle down?

RLC: I will not settle down, I will not take it easy and I
will not relax. But I'd get married if I met someone. It's
not easy.

COT: What is your proudest moment in show business??

RLC: I opened for rapper Marky Mark and 15,000 12 year old girls pelted me with ice.

COT: Did you work on a script for Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?

RLC: Yes. I also wrote "When Good Pets Go Bad". 2nd and 3rd proudest moments.

COT: What's your favorite movie?

RLC: Field of Dreams. I cried, which totally aroused my girlfriend... ... Now I cry whenever I'm horny.
