Beth Coulson: A lawyer and former judge (appointed by Clinton to the Arkansas Court of Appeals in 1987), and longtime friend of the president. In his deposition, Clinton said he chose her because she was intelligent and a supporter. He denied any sexual relationship. He said he visited her at her house about five times while her husband was not there, calling them personal visits with a friend. Rumour has it that the Paula Jones team mounted an undercover surveillance operation to serve Coulson with a subpoena. They pounced as she was getting into her car in Little Rock on Country Club Boulevard, dashing across the pavement waving the dreaded papers. But Ms. Coulson dived inside her vehicle and locked the doors before they could reach her. The subpoena was placed under the windshield wipers while she scowled through the glass.
Result: Arguably she had not been formally served, but as a former judge, she decided that it was time to admit defeat. Her office referred all calls to her lawyer, who said the subpoena was served in her garden.
UPDATE: More recently, Coulson was on the committee of Arkansas friends that recommended names for Clinton's new dog, Buddy (Apparently "Paula" was taken).
